Hadoop skills club an exclusive insight

by Vaishnavi Agrawal

Today we constantly experience the morbid shadow which is casted by Hadoop skill-gap, so much so in fact that now we regard it as an entity of its own legendary accord. It is believed that due to the restrictive and demanding standards of training, professionals are not motivated to extend their skill-set in the trending technologies. To be fair, there are some factors that lay the foundation for these claims, such as: lack of trained faculty, geographical restrictions imposed by classroom training and of course fiscally unviable tuitions, however the truth is that the so-called "skill gap" is not oriented around the unavailability of skilled personnel, but an improper approach toward recruitment. Lack of skills and familiarity are the foremost causes observed, finding the right people for the job is considered a herculean task and the general misconception is that demand exceeds supply of skills.

Recently, it has been observed that companies that were affiliated with professional training companies to develop the in-house talent are abolishing the practice as it's generally cheaper to poach professionals from other companies than it is to train and grow talent. This results in absence of personnel customization, reduction of quality and is functional only by assuming that there is an availability of quality personnel.

Buzzword-matching to skills approach, taken by the IT recruiters is redundant. The prospective candidates, who know Hadoop or maybe want to pursue Hadoop, must gain proficiency based on experience in HDFS, HIVE, Mapreduce and Spark, especially any functional programming experience in Scala or python. You need to understand why you can't put HDFS on the SAN. With little experience and knowledge of functional programming, SQL, and distributed computing, any moderately knowledgeable JAVA/Linux developer can approach and gain proficiency in Hadoop, in under a months' time with focused hard work. Hence, it is quite evident that the recruitment for Hadoop must be based on pre-requisite skill-set in order to exercise effective in-house training rather than poaching personnel from the market.

The recruitment carried out by the companies is ineffective due to their sheer unawareness regarding the subject. There are organization who have analyzed these issues and the results computed are astounding, in term of the opportunities that they offer. Many companies are availing facilities offered by IT training company's for recruitment purposes, The remuneration expectation in the IT sector is relatively high as compared to that of the other profession, but the key to capitalizing on these opportunities is to have the relevant experience and the right skill-set.

To tackle the same issues a prospective candidate can approach Hadoop in two stages; stage one involves, understanding Hadoop. It is one of the best programming frameworks. It facilitates rapid data processing and the entire operation remains uninterrupted even when a node fails, ensuring there is no system failure. As data is calculated in terabytes these days, these analysis carried out on big data can prevent loses and open new avenues for profit. So when it comes to managing big data, Hadoop is the best solution.

Hadoop is different from the traditional RDBMS as the later is useful for single file as well as short data and Hadoop is useful for single file as well as short data and Hadoop is useful for big data handling. Hadoop uses MapReduce to analyze big data and filing system is HDFS, which is used to store large data files. It can handle streaming data as well as running clusters on the commodity hardware. HDFS has great fault tolerance capabilities, high throughput and suitability.

User must bear in mind that Hadoop can only process the digital data. Name mode determines the data node to write on, regardless of which mode Hadoop runs; standalone, pseudo distribution and fully distributed modes; making it optimum for handling big data.

Stage two involves requesting the services of recruitment facilitated by IT companies, who provide technical training as they have hand on experience and understand the technical skill-sets better. Most of the companies are availing these companies for their recruitment services and with salaries ranging up to $143000, there can be no margin for error.

Candidates must also zero-in on a certain form of training out of the many forms that can be availed. The truth is that the education will be rendered pointless if the training is not exercised in a practical manner, if the knowledge is not provided by trained professionals, and if the education remains incomplete, therefore it is imperative that one understands the skills that can be absorbed, how they will be implemented and the quality of services provided by the training company.

With more than 30000 career opportunities, waiting to be grabbed, candidates must familiarize themselves with the cumulative sum of above mentioned information to ensure that they have a holistic understanding of what Hadoop entail, so as to form an effective approach.
